What does For Time mean?

Complete the prescribed work in its stated order and record the time. The programme may use rounds, changing repetition counts or a sequence of tasks. For Time defines scoring rather than a single workout structure.

Read the whole prescription

Check repetitions, distances, loads, rest and standards. Establish when the clock starts and stops. Planned rest is part of the programme and should not be silently removed.

When a time cap applies

A time cap limits the work period. If you do not finish, use the workout’s stated convention for remaining repetitions or completed work. Do not invent a conversion between distances and repetitions. Not every For Time workout has a cap.

Plan sets and transitions

A very fast opening can make later tasks slower. Choose manageable sets and a load appropriate to the intended effort. Scaling can involve movement, volume and timing as well as weight.

Compare like with like

Record your version and score. Different loads or movement substitutions represent different tasks. AMRAP fixes time and measures work; For Time fixes work and measures time.
