What is the HYROX PFT?
The Physical Fitness Test is an introduction to HYROX-style effort and a way to establish a training reference. It combines running, bodyweight work, rowing and wall balls in one sequence. It is shorter and structurally different from a full HYROX race.
The official HYROX PFT explanation presents it as guidance for choosing a division, rather than a qualifying test. A result does not guarantee readiness for every race load or predict your finishing time.
The PFT workout
Complete the six tasks in the stated order:
- 1,000 m run, outdoors or on a treadmill at 2{9e0c687fb00ed53a837e10cf9b5fb4132a20cacbb2b3d1bc8caf74d397cbf09c} incline
- 50 burpee broad jumps
- 100 lunges
- 1,000 m row
- 30 hand-release push-ups
- 100 wall balls: 6 kg for men and 4 kg for women
The HYROX US test page additionally specifies 90 cm burpee broad jumps and stationary lunges with full extension. Confirm the detailed movement and target standards with the organiser of your test before starting.
Prepare the space and equipment
Arrange the running route or treadmill, rowing machine, wall-ball target and floor area before the timer starts. Check how the organiser counts repetitions and handles transitions. Write down any modifications so that an adapted training session is not confused with the published test.
Warm up the movements at a manageable intensity. Rehearse the hand-release push-up and the wall-ball target standard instead of discovering them halfway through the effort. If you are new to these movements, begin with the HYROX beginner guide.
Pace the test as a complete sequence
Start the run at a pace that leaves you able to begin the burpees. Avoid using all your energy on the first two tasks. Plan small, repeatable sets for push-ups and wall balls rather than waiting for an unsuccessful repetition before resting.
For your own training record, note the end of each task as well as total time. Those splits help identify whether running, local muscular fatigue or transitions limited your session. They are more useful than one number without any context.
How should you interpret the result?
HYROX US publishes indicative brackets of 15–25 minutes for Pro, 25–35 for Open, 30–40 for Doubles and 35–45 for Relay. These are orientation ranges, not entry requirements, race-time conversions or proof that the heavier Pro loads suit you.
Consider your experience, ability to handle the required loads and preferred race format alongside the test. Read our division guide and the current event rules before entering.
Use the test to guide training
If the row interrupted your rhythm, practise sustainable rowing intervals. If wall balls required long pauses, work on repeatable sets and target accuracy. If you struggled to restart after each station, build transitions into controlled sessions.
Keep conditions comparable when repeating the test: equipment, route, standards and any adaptations should be recorded. Allow recovery and a meaningful training block between attempts. Use the HYROX training guide to turn the result into a plan rather than retesting constantly.
