What is ATHX?
ATHX is a hybrid fitness competition built around three scored workouts: Strength, Endurance and MetCon X. It shares a sporting landscape with HYROX but has its own format. It should not be presented as an official HYROX category.
The underlying structure stays recognisable between seasons, while the competitive workouts change for the following season. Check the year on every set of standards you use.
Three workouts within a longer event
The advertised journey takes approximately two and a half hours, including preparation, workouts and recovery. That does not mean two and a half hours of continuous exercise.
| Workout | Main focus |
|---|---|
| Strength | Strength and controlled loaded movements |
| Endurance | Sustaining the prescribed work |
| MetCon X | Functional exercise sequences and pacing |
The preparation and recovery zones are part of the organisation. They also provide an opportunity to review instructions, adjust equipment and prepare for the next workout.
Individuals, pairs and divisions
The official website distinguishes LITE, ATHX and PRO. Its entry guidance offers pairs in all three divisions, with individual entries in ATHX and PRO. Loads and movement requirements vary by division.
Do not choose a category solely from a result in another competition. Read the standards, tasks and work-sharing rules for the entry you are considering.
ATHX or HYROX: what should you compare?
HYROX organises a race around running and functional stations. ATHX separates the tested qualities into three workouts with intermediate periods. Compare the organisation of the day as well as the exercise list.
Ask what you want to measure: your ability to sustain a hybrid race or your performance across distinct tests. Neither format is automatically easier. Your experience and the season’s programme matter.
Preparing for a first event
List the movements you can perform confidently, those you need to learn and the equipment available to you. Check judging standards too: a repetition completed in training may not meet the competition’s criteria.
Avoid making every session a complete race simulation. Plan preparation and recovery with your coach around the published demands. Before booking, confirm division, entry format, rulebook, registration conditions and the programme for that edition.
