What equipment should you choose for Hyrox?
Start with what you already wear and use in training. Comfortable running shoes, clothing that allows movement and a simple kit-bag plan come first. Tracking devices and home equipment can follow according to your practice.
Shoes: consider running and the movements
A shoe should suit the whole session, not one exercise. Examine foot hold, toe room, running comfort and how it feels when pushing or carrying a load. A shoe selected only for weightlifting involves different compromises.
Try the pair with your intended socks and follow the brand’s sizing guidance. Test it during training before relying on it for a race. A ranking does not replace a personal fit check.
Watches and trackers: choose useful features
Identify what you want to monitor: session duration, manual laps, heart rate, running or recovery. Compare controls, readability, phone compatibility and stated battery life for the intended mode.
A GPS watch and a screenless tracker serve different purposes. Indoor GPS should not be treated as a guaranteed measurement of the course distance. Official race timing and personal tracking data have different roles.
Check generation, case size, strap and subscriptions. Comparison prices relate to specific selected references and may be absent when an exact offer is unavailable.
Clothing and accessories: keep the setup simple
Use clothing you have already worn for running, squatting, lunging and arm movements. Check seams, support, rubbing and where you carry personal items.
Pack training or race clothing, documents requested by the organiser and a change of clothes. Bag storage and access arrangements depend on the event; read the information supplied with registration.
Do not assume an accessory used in the gym is permitted in competition. Consult the applicable season and division rulebook before buying gloves, grips, straps or hydration equipment for the race.
Home equipment: buy for your programme
Check what your gym already provides. You do not need to reproduce every station at home. Purchases should fit the planned sessions, usable space and installation conditions.
Weights and carries
Compare weight per item, quantity supplied, grip and floor protection. A single kettlebell or dumbbell is not the same package as a pair for bilateral carries.
Rowing and SkiErg
For larger purchases, check dimensions in use and storage, maintenance, parts and mounting requirements. Our movement guides explain technique and settings; they are not product comparisons.
Compare total cost and exact offers
Compare equivalent variants and account for delivery, included accessories, returns and subscriptions. Machine installation and maintenance can also affect the total.
Some comparison links are affiliated: Wodball may receive a commission after a purchase without extra cost to you. Available offers update automatically in the relevant guides. Confirm final price, seller and stock with the retailer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a watch to begin?
You can start by learning the movements and following appropriate coached sessions. A watch answers a personal tracking need; it does not replace a programme.
Must I buy every station’s equipment?
No. Start with available facilities and your training goals. Read the Hyrox guide before building a shopping list.
